Community Cafe News

We've been open for a few weeks now at the Old Fire Station serving refreshments and cakes from 10.30am to 2pm onMondays and Tuesdays. Everyone has been welcomed and we've enjoyed seeing people coming in.
We've got an impressive selection of artwork on the walls from the local London Road college. Mark Reeves has designed a display of both his own and students’ work. Visitors can also find out more about local groups like the Voluntary Action Group, Cheshire Link, and local colleges from our information board.
We've been serving hot and cold drinks, toast with jams, along with homemade soup and cakes from our baking group. Over the Christmas period the team we were also busy selling Christmas cakes, homemade doorstops and cards and boxes as well as Christmas wreaths.
Service Supervisor at the Old Fire Station, Jo Silva said: “A group of our service users have been studying for an NVQ in Food and so the Community Cafe is an ideal way of showing off their new skills.”
Clare Brandon and Amy Banford were two of the first service users to work in the cafe, they said: “We are so happy to be able to do this and meeting new people is lovely, though we are usually really tired by the end of the day.”

Watch this space too as we're setting up a knitting group on Fridays and we're taking part in Anthony Gormley's Join the Flock art project.
For more information call Jo at the Old Fire Station on 01606 49276.
