Our Brilliant Penguins!

Above is a photo of two of our fantastic swimmers - on the left is Emma Pickering who won gold and bronze medals at the British Downs Symdrome Championships in High Wycombe earlier this month. Next to her is Emma Calvert who won 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals and is now National Champion for 2 lengths breast stroke. She said it was a very long day but good fun and she's really proud.
Jamie Walker has also done brilliantly and is National Champion at 1 length butterfly stroke.

They all swim for the Cheshire Penguins Swimming Club which has been going for 34 years now. Emma Calvert will be representing her team in September this year in the Global Special Olympics held in San Juan in Puerto Rico. There will be 1200 athletes with learning difficulties there so competition will be fierce. Also representing the Penguins will be Jodie Bowyer, Pete Edwards and Sean Daniels who all attend the Old Fire Station.

The Penguins are currently trying to raise sponsorship money to help the athletes with travel costs etc as they have not managed to get any funding, despite being the top performing team in all the national competitions this year. Roberts Bakery have kindly offered a small donation to help. If anyone else would like to sponsor our fantastic swimmers please call in at the Old Fire Station or call Ann Calvert on 01606 42453.

Bake Off!

Last Wednesday, our sports day had to be cancelled due to the field being waterlogged after all the rain, but our Bake Off went ahead! We all went to the Old Fire Station and Poppies Pantry sold lots of thir tasty cakes. They entered their tennis inspired cake into the competition, which we all thought looked fantastic. The winners were The Mulberry Centres fantastic display of cup cakes. Gill Sadler from Meadowbank Lodge also won a prize for her lovely cupcakes, and School Way won a prize too for their great cake inspired by several events, including the Olympics, Jubilee and football. ChatterBox 5's Jean Clarke helped make the School Way cake so we're very proud of her. Some other members of ChatterBox 5 helped make our red white and blue cheesecake, decorated with flags and special mention has to be made of Jayne Amphlett and Jean Smallwood's amazing chocolate creation which everyone agreed tasted gorgeous! Sue Jones and Lizzie Burrows also made really lovely cakes. Everyone did really well and we were all winners as we all got to try the cakes after the judging!

Frogtastic!

Ged, Tim and Sue supported by Tracy and Chalene all went to the Frogtastic in the Park music festival at Walton Gardens last Wednesday. They had a pub tea first, Ged enjoyed steak and Sue and Tim loved their steak pies. They really enjoyed the night, including having pics taken with a paralympic swimmer and the torch, and also with singer Carly Ryan who they said was fantastic. There was a Kylie tribute and a Robbie Williams tribute too, all in  a big marquee in the park. Ged threw his hat in the air in joy when Kylie kissed him, and Tim liked being outside for the music but wasn't so keen on the mud. They all had a great night though, and it was all free, for Disability Awareness week. Watch this space as there are going to be some Frogtastic nights in Manchester soon...............

Men versus Women!

We had a battle of the sexes today in the Blog group and we all shared our pet hates about the opposite sex!
Our men in the group said that sometimes women shop too much, natter and nag too much, can be moody, like boring things like clothes and make up, and can be bossy and hard to please!
We ladies said that sometimes men are bossy and hard to please too! And sometimes men can be grumpy and don't clean up and sometimes they can be scruffy and not have a shave. And they talk too much about football and cars!
This isn't everyone of course. To end on a positive note, we ladies said the things we like about men include when they get dressed up smartly and wear aftershave and smell nice, and when they are gentlemen and treat us nicely and have good manners. Men are strong too, and help us carry things, and they are very handsome.
The men then said that we ladies are good company and we are friendly and kind and look after people and we are beautiful!
Aaaaaaah! It's nice to be appreciated and we all agreed that we're all different and we all have our good points aswell as our bad points!

Swimming at Marbury by Emma C

When I go swimming at Marbury I have to catch the bus and I use my bus pass. I get my wet suit on and get in and all the mud squidges between my toes along with all the sand and seaweed! I have to swim 2 miles to get round the lake. I swim with a lot of people who are also my friends and I have a good laugh with them though the swim is hard work!
I swim past the swans and ducks half way and sometimes I see fish in the water too.  After my swim mum picks me up and takes me for tea. I like hot soup and bread. Sometimes when I swim in competitions I win medals, gold, silver and bronze.

This picture is of our two brilliant Emmas, Emma P on the left, and Emma C on the right.

They both won these medals at Reading a couple of weeks ago.

We're very proud of them both here at Chatterbox5!
