Older People's Day

It is Older People's Day on Saturday 1st October, and its the fifth year that the contribution that older people make to society is being celebrated. Our Chatterbox5 Communications team today ranged from 16 to 63 and we decided that people aren't 'old' till at least 90. Our 63 year old, Mr Barry Williams said he definetely doesn't feel old yet but will let us know when he does!

Some of the things our group liked about being around older people is that they often like to get out and about and are full of life. They have lots of interesting memories, including memories of the war. They can quite often be thrifty and full of good practical ideas for making do and mending things - they don't need any lessons about recycling! They're also very wise and if we have any problems, chances are someone older can give us all advice as they've been there, or seen it all already....

Karen's mum's cousin John is 100 - he lives in the Lake District and got a telegram from the queen. He's got lots of interesting stories about the war and Karen's grandmother was a nurse during the war and had lots of stories too.

Another good thing about older people is that they have often stopped work and are taking things a bit easier and relaxing - which means that they have more time to spend with us and their grandchildren and friends.......

The Brighton Belle

A review of the Brighton Bell in Winsford.

The Brighton Belle has been open for about 6 months; I went along for a meal and to see if it meets a high standard.
It is very clean and tidy from the front and has more than enough car spaces. There is also a children’s play area outside to keep the little monkeys happy.
Inside is very modern and spacious, however some areas have steps and this can be hard to navigate with pushchairs or wheelchairs.
I enjoyed my meal, I had a jacket potato with bacon and a side salad. The side salad looked fresh and crisp, the bacon didn’t have a lot of fat on it and the jacket potato fluffy and delish. I would recommend the Brighton Belle to anyone.

My Nephew's Wedding

On Saturday night i went to my nephew's wedding. At around 6pm i started to get ready to go out, I was wearing black trouser, a turquoise shirt and a white and grey tie. We arrived at Winsford Conservative club at about 7pm. The Bride and Groom looked great, the Bride was wearing a traditional white dress and the Broom was wearing a black morning suit and tie. I had a great time and met lots of different people.

Great North Run for Chatterbox5

Denise Garner, our Unit Manager at Firdale and the Old Fire Station is going to be doing the Great North Run on Sunday 18th September. Last year she ran the race in 2 hours and 16 minutes and raised a lot of money for her chosen charity Shelter. This year she is training hard and hoping to run even faster. Any money she raises is going to go the the Chatterbox 5 group to help buy some IT equipment to help us with our work. The group is made up of people from both centres and as well as getting over to Meadowbank Lodge in Winsford and Dane Walk in Northwich to get stories for our newsletter, we've recently produced some easy read minutes for the Partnership Board and been updating this Blog. We have a Blog on the Northwich Guardian website too and are going to make up a What's On guide for all our centres to use, and we are thinking of setting up a mystery shopping service if we have a minute to spare so there's a lot going on! If anyone wants to make a donation to support us please contact us or Denise at Firdale or the Old Fire Station, or via this Blog. All contributions will be gratefully recieved and every little helps as they say!

Derek's Comedy Night

In august I spent 5 days in Scarborough. On Wednesday we got a coach to Scarborough which was quite a long journey. On Thursday we spent all day in a place called Beverley where we visited a local pub. On Friday we went to a place where they film heartbeat, I enjoyed it a lot because I watch it on the Tele. Saturday was a really busy day as we visited moors through the day, then went to a comedy play in the evening which was my favourite part of the visit to Scarborough.

Jean In Disneyland

I have been visiting Disneyland Paris which is in France. We left Manchester airport on early Monday morning and set off to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. I was a little nervous of flying because I've done this before, but I really enjoyed it because it was very quick and the landing was fun. Once we collected our baggage we had to get a coach to our Disney hotel. The hotel was really exciting because it had Mickey Mouse on the wall which reminded me of next day where i would be in Disneyland. I spent all day at Disneyland and went on lots of different attractions but my favourite was the Dog ride, I also met lots of Disney characters like Donald Duck, Pluto, Buzz Lightyear, Mary Poppins, The Red And The White Queens and my Favourite of all Mickey Mouse.
